Photography has been a major part of Jackson’s life since his first photographs with a brownie box camera at age 6 when his parents chided him, “You have to have the sun at your back!” Jack “turned professional” when he accepted a job in college working for the News Bureau at Fort Hays State University.

After putting himself through college with his camera, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where he became a precision processing technician in a photo recon squadron. He later worked for Photographic Services at Kansas State University before joining the faculty at Fort Hays State University where he taught photography and later desktop publishing and multimedia while also directing the Photographic Services branch of the University.

He retired to Arizona in 2007 after 38 years on the Fort Hays State University faculty. Retirement has allowed him the time to pursue his photographic passion with zeal, focusing on wildlife and scenic photos, primarily of the American Southwest. His favorite is probably the intimate view, the part of a scene that others might overlook. He has been showing his work at the Sedona Art Gallery as well as Honeycutt Coffee, Art on the Veranda, City Hall Gallery and art shows in Maricopa and throughout the State.

“We are excited to have Jack as the featured Maricopa artist in September,” said Dan Beach Director of MCE, “his works are breathtaking. It is always amazing to me to see the quality of artists who call Maricopa home.”
