“We are really excited about this year’s festival,” said Brian Andrews, Country Thunder producer. “We really feel like we have stepped up the level of talent.”
In addition to Urban and Rock, the 17th edition of the four-day festival will feature Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson and actor Kevin Costner with his band, Modern West. The event, which is slated for April 14-17, will take place on a 50-acre site, housing scores of vendors, two music stages and 4,000 campsites.
“We basically build a small town outside Florence, offering campers and concertgoers anything they could possible need,” Andrews said. The grounds will offer three different campsites with varying costs based on amenities and location. “The younger guys, for some reason, always want to be close to the showers,” Andrews said.
The campsites sit on a wide-open expanse of land, and overnighters are welcome to bring in their own food and beverages. “It’s kind of like NASCAR camping,” Andrews said.
The entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday; 2 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. In years past, the festival has drawn close to 100,000 people over its four-day run.
Although there is reserved seating for the event, Andrews said they like to keep the numbers limited so those buying general admission tickets can get as close to the stage as possible. “We want everyone to come out, be safe and have a good time,” Andrews said.
