The city’s newest ball fields were named at a ceremony yesterday.

City and Global Water Resources staff gathered at the newly opened Lake View Park, 22240 N. Powers Parkway W., for a collaborative event to celebrate Global Water’s 20th anniversary in Maricopa.

“We’re going to sponsor the facility since we’re their neighbor just down the road,” GWR President and CEO Ron Fleming said.

Mayor Nancy Smith noted this sponsorship was not Global Water’s first, and it previously sponsored swimming lessons for elementary students and the sports complex at Pacana Park.

“The city was nice enough to allow us to even brand [the fields] a little bit,” Fleming added. “I am very proud to announce these two ball fields will be Santa Cruz Field and Palo Verde Field.”

The fields are named after Santa Cruz Water Company and Palo Verde Utilities Company, companies Global Water bought in Maricopa 20 years ago.
