The southbound lanes of N. Porter Road will close to all traffic between Smith-Enke and Honeycutt roads beginning Wednesday, Jan. 26 and remain closed through the completion of the road-widening project, estimated to be June 2022.

The project will widen the road from two to four lanes between Smith-Enke and Honeycutt. Crews require the additional space provided by the lane closures to complete the project.

The closure also is necessary to provide emergency vehicles a safe route through traffic. Maricopa Fire Station 571 is located about 800 feet south of Smith-Enke on the east side of Porter and the closure will provide those firefighters with the emergency lane required to serve the needs of the surrounding community.

Residents and visitors who need the southbound lanes of Porter Rd. to reach their homes or businesses will be directed to alternate routes along White & Parker and Honeycutt roads until they can join northbound traffic on Porter. Appropriate signage will be in place along the route to alert drivers to traffic diversions, and Maricopa Police will monitor traffic as the closures begin to ensure drivers are aware of the detours.

Truck access to the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado is available from Smith-Enke Road while truck access to the east side of the city will be diverted to Honeycutt Road. Truck access to other areas will be redirected from Smith-Enke Road onto Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The city is asking that residents, “please make the necessary adjustments to your schedules, stay safe, and watch for progress updates on the project.”
