Maricopa City Council could swear in a new member Thursday to fill its vacant seat.

The council is scheduled to interview applicants at a special meeting at 6 p.m. city hall. A vote and swearing-in ceremony could follow the discussion.

The mayor and council have developed a set of questions, which they will ask each applicant, said city clerk, Vanessa Bueras.

The vacant seat was created when Leon Potter resigned in March to run for mayor.

The person who is appointed will hold the position for five months. After that, whoever is elected to the seat will then finish Potter’s four-year term, which ends in 2016.

The applicants for the city council seat are Wade Beckstead, former councilman Carl Diedrich, Dan Frank, Brad Hinton, former vice mayor Brent Murphree and Rosalin Sanhadja.
