The Maricopa community chorus and Maricopa Music Circle performed Sunday kicking off the holiday season with such holiday favorites such as “Carol of the Bells” and an audience participated rendition of “Deck the Halls.”

The hour-long concert took place at Maricopa’s First Baptist Church before more than 200.

“I was very surprised with the turnout, it’s really a great thing for the community this time of year,” said Kevin Treacy, youth pastor and deacon at the church. “My favorite part was the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ at the end.”

John Janzen, chorus founder and conductor, said he was pleased with the evening’s efforts.

“We’ve been working on it since September. It turned out very well, they were on pitch and the cut-offs were great,” Janzen said.

Judith Lang Zaimont, composer and coordinator for Maricopa Music Circle, said, “It went well, it was certainly heartfelt and beautifully received.”
