Servicing the city of Maricopa and the surrounding area since 1998, Maricopa Disposal Services workers have collected their last can of trash. The local company was recently purchased by Waste Management, the largest waste and environmental services business in North America.

“We are dedicated to providing the best service to the residents of Maricopa,” said Melissa Quillard, spokeswoman for Waste Management-Arizona. Maricopa Disposal, in its heyday, serviced 11 subdivisions, rural Pinal County and the old town Maricopa area. However, during the last few years, the number of contracts it serviced had eroded, including the loss of the Maricopa Meadows contract in January.

The company’s headquarters, which was located on Papago Road, will be closed and its employees will be left looking for work elsewhere. With the purchase, Quillard said there would be no interruptions in service and customers would continue to use their Maricopa Disposal containers.

“We will begin to analyze routes to see if we can improve efficiency and limit the number of trucks on the road, but no changes are planned at this time,” she added. Quillard said those employees servicing the Maricopa area according will operate out of either the company’s San Tan or Butterfield locations. A representative from Maricopa Disposal could not be reached for comment.

Waste Management serves nearly 20 million municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential customers. For more information, contact Waste Management at 800-796-9696.
