City fire units responded to a report of a possible drowning yesterday at 5 p.m. on North Cobblestone Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found a 5-year-old boy pool side in his mother’s arms conscious and alert.

On scene command reported the child was playing in the pool and another boy, approximately 10 years old, found the younger boy submerged.

The 10-year-old saw that the younger boy was not coming to the surface and removed him from the water to the side of pool. Bystanders reported there was a brief loss of consciousness and his mother began CPR.

Within minutes, crews were on scene and upon their arrival the child was conscious and alert, according to Battalion Chief Jim Wise. The child was transported to Chandler Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

This incident, although unfortunate, is an example of the importance of watching your children around water and knowing CPR. The quick action of the 10-year-old and the mother’s intervention may have saved this young boy’s life.
