Maricopa Historical Society golf tourney nets $7K

The Maricopa Historical Society’s 4th Annual Historic Golf Tournament raised almost $7,000. The Oct. 25 event at The Duke at Rancho El Dorado included a lunch, silent auction and raffle and was part of Stagecoach Days.
 
“The funds raised will go a long way to support the Historical Society's effort to make Maricopa's rich history real to children and adults,” President Brent Murphree said. “We continue to help educate our community on the importance of our community's past through elementary school programs, library presentations, tours of historically significant locations and community gatherings.”
 
Event organizer Brenda Campbell said she is “continuously amazed at the huge support received in the community. We try to add elements to the tournament that help celebrate Maricopa’s founding and its rich cultural history.” 
 
iss Outstanding Arizona Teen, Amber Barlo, started the golfers off in the traditional “shotgun” start and Miss Pinal County, Jacqueline Thomas, toured the course handing out old-time candy and water.
 
Sheriff Paul Babeu’s team won first place followed by players representing Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino.  Russ Rohlicek won Longest Drive and Ralph Gomez Closest to the Pin.

The Maricopa Historical Society is raising money to build a permanent home for its vast collection of historical items, which includes artifacts from all eras of Maricopa’s history, including Native American, Spanish and American.
