Maricopa Police celebrate first anniversary

345

On July 1, 2007, the Maricopa Police Department began providing limited day-time police services to the citizens of Maricopa with 12 sworn members and a handful of support staff.

A year later, the department is 63 strong and providing public safety services around the clock, seven days a week.

This whirlwind year has been full of many learning experiences and a countless number of firsts in the history of public safety in the city of Maricopa. We have seen a “melting pot” of officers from agencies throughout the state of Arizona and across the country, with a large range of experience levels coming together for a common purpose of providing professional public safety services.

We have seen a significant reduction in the number of vehicle collisions on State Route 347 within the city of Maricopa and no fatal collisions within the city since the department began law enforcement activities.

We have seen the creation of the city of Maricopa Public Safety Department with an emphasis on cooperation and collaboration between Fire and Police departments with a goal providing high levels of customer service and safety to the residences of Maricopa. The list of accomplishment and individual and combined efforts are numerous.

While launching our second year, our resolve as a police department has never been stronger to provide proactive, professional, and progressive law enforcement services. We continue to perfect processes and develop more innovative ways to deter, identify and suppress criminal activity while proactively providing community services to assist in promoting a higher quality of life for the citizens we serve.

We recognize and acknowledge the efforts of our mayor and City Council and citizens alike in providing support and resources to accomplish all we have in the past year. We plan to continue working to create a legacy of law enforcement and public safety our citizens will be proud of. We will be vigilant in our quest to enhance the safety and security of all of our community members.
