The City of Maricopa is being recognized for continuing to prioritize community safety and quality of life for our residents. According to Moving Waldo, a Montreal-based moving company, Maricopa proudly stands among the Top 10 Safest Cities in Arizona for yet another year.

Jumping two spots to #2 in 2024 from #4 in 2023, the tireless efforts of our police and fire departments, combined with the strong sense of community cultivated by residents, have made Maricopa a haven for families and individuals seeking a secure and fulfilling life.

“Safety is more than just statistics,” remarked Mayor Nancy Smith. “It’s the peace of mind we enjoy, the comfort of knowing our families are protected, and the confidence we have in our community’s well-being. This recognition reflects the collective dedication of our residents and public servants.”

The Moving Waldo study considered a number of factors in its ranking, including crime rates, quality of schools, job opportunities, and affordability.

For 2023, the City of Maricopa saw a 6 percent decrease in crime per capita despite a significant increase in population.

“This achievement belongs to everyone in Maricopa,” says Police Chief Mark Goodman. “Crime reduction isn’t just about law enforcement; it’s about engaged citizens reporting suspicious activity, participating in neighborhood watch programs, and building a culture of mutual respect. Together, we’re making a difference.”
