More school records tumble in MHS swim meet (GALLERY)

Nolan Ford was part of four school records during the meet.

In a three-way meet, Maricopa High School swimmers set 11 school records.

The MHS boys earned 110 points in defeating Valley Christian (98) and Dobson (86). The girls team finished second against the same schools.

“Our guys set four new school records in a total team effort that was required to come out on top,” coach Laura Logan said. “Our girls lowered seven school records turning in a very tough performance against two formidable opponents. Super proud of our team as we watched a total of 11 school records fall.”

Nolan Ford broke two individual records, winning the 50 freestyle in 22.06 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.10. Connor Schrader set another record, winning the 100 freestyle in 50.10.

The 200 medley relay team of Schrader, Ford, Abel Rodriguez and Andrew Varga was a winner in 1:51.68.

The 200 free relay team of Schrader, Rodriguez, Varga and Ford finished third but set a school record in 1:37.75.

Other third-place finishers for the MHS boys’ team were Gerci Kramarcyzk in the 100 breaststroke, Rodriguez in the 100 butterfly, Schrader in the 200 individual medley, Rafe Scoresby in the 200 freestyle and the 500 free and the 400 free relay team of Rodriguez, Bryan Perez, Victor Moreno and Scoresby.

On the girls’ side, Katelyn Owens and MacKenzie Fair were both part of four MHS record-setting performances. Owens won the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.48, a new mark for MHS, and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team along with Fair, Dori Hames and Olivia Byers in 2:09.60.

Owens was also on the 200 freestyle relay team with Fair, Hames and Byers that set a school record in 1:53.82 while finishing second. Byers was third in the 200 individual medley, setting a new Ram record in 2:43.61.

Fair won the 200 free in 2:15.60 and the 100 backstroke in 1:13.36, both MHS records.

Byers lowered the school mark in the 500 freestyle by winning in 6:03.70. Hames set a Maricopa record in the 100 fly, finishing second in 1:15.37.

Byers was second in the 50 free. Lexie Nordhoff finished third in the 100 fly, and Sophia Occhiline was third in the 100 free. Also third was the 400 free relay team of Aubree Wittemann, Emily Hollingsworth, Isabella Piwowar and Occhiline.

The Valley Christian girls won the meet with 139 points, with Maricopa second with 114, and Dobson third with 34.

Maricopa next competes at Westwood Oct. 15.
