Maricopa students will be in the holiday mood during this final week of classes prior to the winter break. Concerts and holiday activities are planned at all elementary schools on Tuesday evening.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be appearing Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 – 9 p.m. through Dec. 23 at Desert Cedars subdivision on Cypress Lane at 6 p.m. From SR 347 south of the tracks, take a left on Bowlin, another left on Brittlebush and left again on Cypress to the house on the left with all the lights. Residents are asked to drop off an unwrapped toy or food item for the less fortunate in Maricopa.

Monday, Dec. 17:

Maricopa Wells Middle School’s Holiday Dance Recital, under the instruction of Jennifer Stanley, begins at 6 p.m. at the school.

The Rams boys’ soccer team will play at 6 p.m. away against Parker.

High school girls’ soccer plays at home today at 6 p.m. in a match with Estrella Foothills.

Tuesday, Dec. 18:

Everyone is welcome to stop by the Maricopa Community Library from 9:30-11:30 a.m. to have a cup of coffee, a glass of lemonade and maybe a cookie or two, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Their cookbook, “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona” ($10) and Patricia Brock’s “Reflections of a Desert Town” ($25) are both available for purchase. This will be the last Coffee on the Porch until the new year.

New Life Pregnancy Center offers free parenting classes on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., during their regular weekly office hours. To schedule an appointment, call (520) 568-0612. Lessons cover prenatal care through the teen years.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 19235 W. Gunsmoke Road every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

High school girls’ basketball plays Fountain Hills away at 7 p.m.; the junior varsity team will play at 5:30 p.m. and the freshmen at 4 p.m.

The Maricopa boys’ varsity basketball team will also go up against Fountain Hills, taking the home court at 7 p.m. with the junior varsity slated for 5:30 p.m. and the freshmen at 4 p.m.

Maricopa’s City Council meets tonight at the Global Water facility at 6 p.m. for a work session and at 7 p.m. for their regular session.

All four elementary schools will be hosting holiday concerts or activities tonight at 6:30 p.m. Both Pima Butte and Santa Rosa Elementary Schools will have holiday concerts. Pima Butte’s, under the direction of Dennis Michalski, will showcase grades K-2; the Santa Rosa director is Joanne Matibag.

Maricopa Elementary has scheduled its second annual Winter Express, featuring crafts, treats and family fun. Santa Cruz Elementary will host its annual “Starry, Starry Night” program and festivities.

Wednesday, Dec. 19:

Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will meet at 5 p.m. in Room 1 at the high school for a work session, followed by the regular session at 6 p.m.

La Leche League’s Pinal County West Group will meet in The Villages Clubhouse at 10 a.m. Pregnant women, mothers and children are welcome. Email [email protected] for more information.

Networking Maricopa meets from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Native New Yorker for their monthly meeting.

Thursday, Dec. 20:

Networking Maricopa’s Thursday group meets at the offices of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce. Networking Maricopa is a group of Chamber member men and women committed to support each other through lead sharing and cross promotion. Each group is limited to one company from each profession to avoid cross competition. More groups will be forming soon. For more information contact Chris at (480) 250-2915.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at the First Baptist Church of Maricopa, just south of the tracks on John Wayne Parkway, from 7 – 8 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 21:

The Rams basketball teams will be in action at Safford at 4 p.m. (freshmen), 5:30 p.m. (junior varsity) and 7 p.m. (varsity).
