The annual Province Arts and Crafts Fair, the second round of the school district’s elementary Academic Bowl and Maricopa’s celebration of its heritage, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, are all scheduled for Maricopa this week.

Saturday, Nov. 10:
The second annual Province Arts and Crafts Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Province Town Hall, off Smith-Enke Rd. across from Santa Rosa Elementary. Booths will feature a variety of offerings for sale, including ceramics, pottery, glassware, artwork, jewelry, candles, home and holiday décor and more.

Sunday, Nov. 11:
Veterans Day–thank a veteran for his or her service and remember those serving on active duty across the nation and overseas.

Community of Hope church members will be participating in an Outflow Day, doing free service for the community in a “pay it forward” acts of kindness way. Members will meet at Pima Butte Elementary at 10:45 a.m. to work at the school, do a free car wash in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot, deliver food to needy families or pick up litter.

Monday, Nov. 12:
The Friends of the Maricopa Community Library will meet in the Pima Butte Elementary School library at 6 p.m. The group does fundraising and support activities for the Maricopa library. New members are always welcome.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets at the Global Water facility at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 13: Maricopa Unified School District Elementary whiz kids will participate in the second round of the Academic Bowl. Host schools for the 3:15 p.m. rounds will be Maricopa and Santa Rosa Elementary Schools. Maricopa Elementary will be hosting Pima Butte, and Santa Rosa will host Santa Cruz Elementary.

Everyone is welcome to stop by the Maricopa Community Library on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. to have a cup of coffee, glass of lemonade and maybe a cookie or two, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Their cookbook, “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona” ($10) and Patricia Brock’s “Reflections of a Desert Town” ($25) are both available for purchase.

New Life Pregnancy Center offers free parenting classes on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., during their regular weekly office hours. To schedule an appointment, call (520) 568-0612. Lessons cover prenatal care through the teen years.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 19235 W. Gunsmoke Road every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 14:
The governing board of the Maricopa Unified School District will hold their study session at 5 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Room 1 at Maricopa High School on Honeycutt Ave.

Thursday, Nov. 15:
The Maricopa Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly breakfast, sponsored this month by Akers Physical Therapy, at 7:15 a.m. at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at the First Baptist Church of Maricopa, just south of the tracks on John Wayne Parkway, from 7 – 8 p.m.

The MASH Anti-substance Abuse Coalition meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Montezuma Room at City Hall. The purpose of the coalition is to provide information and referrals to anyone who needs them. All interested persons are welcome to attend.

Friday, Nov.16:
Many “old timers” will be sharing memories of Maricopa’s “olden days” as the Friends of the Library sponsor a celebration of the city’s heritage at the Maricopa Agricultural Center on Smith-Enke Rd. at 7 p.m. A video of the speakers and events will be added to Maricopa’s future new library’s history room when it has been built. Everyone is
welcome.

Saturday, Nov. 17:
Come out and support the Booster Club by donating and/or purchasing items from their sale to be held at 43862 W. Scenic Dr. in Cobblestone Farms from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone with items to donate can call (520) 568-5839 for pick up or can drop them off at the above address. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase cheerleader uniforms and summer camp fees.

Maricopa Wells spirit line will be offering a free camp to elementary girls at the middle school gym and dance room for several Saturdays starting November 17. Assisting with the camp will be the coach and several teachers. The girls will perform at the final middle school girls’ basketball game. Interested parties can email the coach at [email protected].
