What does Canada do for Maricopa?

Canada Arizona Business Council CEO Glenn Williamson gave a presentation Tuesday to the city council on how the CABC and the 350 Canadian companies they represent benefit Maricopa.

“We act as a voice for the Arizona businesses in Canada, and we act as the voice for Canadian business in Arizona,” Williamson said. “Canada buys more from the United States than all 28 members of the European Union combined. Bilateral trades from goods and services for 2014 were about $759 billion. This means that roughly $2 billion worth of goods and services crosses the U.S./Canada border every single day, or $1.4 million every minute.”

Williamson stated the CABC is hoping to expand its presence in Arizona as well. In the future, they’d like to see charter planes frequent the Maricopa area more, as well as expand the trade between Arizona and Canada.

The council, which displayed Canadian flags for the meeting, shared Williamson’s hope for continued growth. They would also like to see the Canadian members of the community get more involved, and possibly have a Canadian celebration day in the city.
