Maricopa Dance Academy (MDA) will hold its annual dance recital at the Mesa Arts Center on Friday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m. ‘At the Movies’ is the theme, and nearly 125 dancers will perform to music from various current movie soundtracks as well as those from the past.

“We invite everyone to come and watch the show. It is a great opportunity for our dancers to showcase what they have learned throughout the year. And the audience is going to have a great time watching dances from music they will recognize,” stated Elizabeth Fujimoto, MDA’s owner.

Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the Mesa Arts Center box office or online at www.mesaarts.com.

“Our students have worked really hard this year, and I am excited with the show this year,” Fujimoto stated. “It just seems like our annual shows keep getting better and better each year.”

Most recently MDA’s performance groups appeared at Disneyland. “We were able to perform a half hour show on the Carnation Stage at Disneyland and then attend a special workshop afterward. It was a great experience for all of the dancers who participated,” said Fujimoto.

MDA is located on John Wayne Parkway right next to Ace Hardware. This summer the studio will hold a special Summer Boot Camp class for anyone who would like to attend. It is a six-week program similar to Crossfit (used by the Mesa SWAT team) and “P90X,” and it will be held Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m., beginning June 22.

Additionally, MDA will hold its annual Dance Camp from July 27-31. Dancers will learn all styles of dance, do a craft and participate in MDA’s own version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ No dance experience is required to attend.

Maricopa Dance Academy serves children age two through adults. It offers tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, hip hop, lyrical, tumbling, pom and cheer, musical theater, as well as exercise classes, including yoga, PIYO, turbo kick, cardio sculpt, ball sculpt and Zumba.
