MHS swimmers qualify for Friday’s state meet

Five Maricopa High School swimmers will compete Friday in the Division I state championships at Skyline Aquatic Center.

By swimming the 50-yard freestyle in 22.55 on Saturday in the qualifying meet at Williams Field in an event he won, junior Nolan Ford landed a place in the state final. He is ranked 14th.

The girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Olivia Byers, Katelyn Owens, Dorianne Hames and MacKenzie Fair set a school record of 4:06.25 Saturday and qualified for the state championships. They are ranked 24th.

The state finals begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Also last week, Fair set a school record in the 200 free, Byers set a record in the 50 free, Owens set a record in the 100-yard breaststroke, and the same relay team lowered the school record in the 200 free relay while finishing fourth.

Ford also took first in the boys’ 100 breast in 1:06.55. The boys’ 400 free relay team of Victor Moreno, Morgan Godfrey, Ian Byers and Bryan Perez finished third. The boys 200 medley relay team of Ford, Geric Kramarczyk, Moreno and Perez finished fourth.

The girls 200 medley relay of Fair, Owens, Hames and Byers set a school record, finishing fourth to round out the regular season.
