Monday is deadline to register to vote in primary election

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming primary is July 28.

The primary is Aug. 26, but early voting for the primary election will begin July 31.

Many of the approximately 60 percent of Arizona voters who are on the early-voting list have already received a document in the mail with instructions of how to request an early ballot.

Independent voters on the early voting list can vote in the primary as well, they just need to respond to the informational postcard and request either a “city-only” ballot or a partisan ballot for that particular primary election.

Anybody who registers to vote in the primary election at this time will have to vote in person at one of the polling stations on the morning of the primary on Aug. 26.

Independent voters who are going to the polls on Election Day will be asked by poll workers which party ballot they want to vote on. Once a voter makes his or her decision as to what ballot they want, by law, they cannot "exchange it" for another party ballot.

It’s important to note for independents voting in the primary that requesting one of the party ballots will not change your party registration.

Citizens may register to vote at City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza or at the Pinal County Recorder’s Office, 31 N. Pinal Street, Florence. To register to vote online go to www.servicearizona.com
