Most pass, one restaurant fails county health inspections

Five goods, three good enoughs and one failing, these are the results from restaurant inspections conducted by the Pinal County Health Department the past two weeks.

The five restaurants receiving an E the past two weeks were Brooklyn Boys Italian Restaurant and Pizza, 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Mi Casita Restaurant, 44480 W. Honeycutt Road, Panda Express, 20850 N. John Wayne Parkway, Pizza Hut, 21101 N. John Wayne Parkway and Sonic, 21470 N. John Wayne Parkway.

Those receiving an S were Arena Sports Grill, 20928 N. John Wayne Parkway, which had violations for employees not wearing gloves and improper cooling of hazardous food, Great Wall Chinese Cuisine, 20928 N. John Wayne Parkway, which had violations for not cooling potentially hazardous foods correctly and refilling storage containers without first washing them, and Say Sushi, 21101 N. John Wayne Parkway, with violations for storing raw food over prepared food.

The restaurant that failed by receiving an N is New Headquarters Café, 19640 N. Maricopa Road, which had violations for foods not being stored at proper temperatures, improper cooling of potentially hazardous foods and improper chemical concentration levels in the dishwashing area.

The department conducts random inspections aimed at ensuring that all the proper safety steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety, county officials said.

To ensure consumer safety the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be fixed within 10 days and affect a location’s score. Non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are based on the number of violations with an E, for excellent, being the highest possible score an establishment can receive. Other scores are S for satisfactory, U for unacceptable and N for needs improvement.
