A motorcycle rider thrown from his Harley Davidson bike after a car struck him from behind on John Wayne Parkway near Lakeview Drive was taken to Chandler Regional Medical Center Wednesday morning for a head injury.

The man was not wearing a helmet, according to a community message from the Maricopa Fire Department.

The crash occurred around 8 a.m. on the northbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway. Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricky Alvarado said the rider was stopped in traffic at the Lakeview Drive light when he was rear ended by the car, described as a four-door sedan.

The motorcycle rider was found at the scene walking around and bleeding from the head, the community message stated. The man was in stable condition when he was taken to the hospital.

“The city of Maricopa Fire Department encourages all motorcycle riders and their passengers to wear DOT-Approved helmets every time they ride,” the message stated.

An off-duty Chandler police detective riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle died last month on State Route 347 when a Nissan SUV struck the bike as the detective was making a lane change. He and a passenger were thrown from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet.

Alvarado said the driver of the sedan in Wednesday morning’s crash will be served a citation through the city court for failure to control speed.
