Torri Anderson and Leslie Carlyle-Burnett will keep the Maricopa Unified School District school board seats to which they were appointed.

With all 12 precincts reporting, Anderson won with 26.3 percent of votes cast, while Carlyle-Burnett garnered 19.8 percent.

“I’m excited and humbled and I’m looking forward to serving the community,” Anderson said.

Anderson, who was appointed in December 2010, said the campaign was a learning experience that taught her both about herself and her family.

“It makes you really appreciate your friends and family,” Anderson said.

She also said she enjoyed “a great campaign committee and the support from the community was great.”

Veronica Gay, who won 19.5 percent of the vote, will take the third open seat.

Gay said she was “elated” at her victory.

“I’m pretty surprised because the people I ran against were all re-elects except one who was a city council member,” Gay said, referring to City Councilman Leon Potter.
