MUSD volunteer: Share budget-cut ideas

570

There is the possibility of a vote by the school board this coming Wednesday the 27th of March. And that vote will affect our school community greatly no matter what might be finalized or tabled.

But no matter what, our school district will have a much different look to it. Something has to be done.

Why? Because the school district has a deficit of $1 million that must be accounted for. And when you talk about having to make that much in cuts to the district it is going to hurt. Dr. Chestnut has stated that he’d rather not have to cut anything, but not cutting anything is completely unrealistic.

Something (probably more than just one thing) has to go, and that is simply going to hurt someone, somewhere.

There are many amazing and wonderful arguments to keep this, that or the other thing going or open. And those arguments are needed, but what is even more necessary at this point in time are alternatives. If you want to keep an educational program open or going because of all the wonderful things it does then what is needed are ideas on how to keep it open. What can be cut somewhere else to keep that afloat?

You want to keep Maricopa Wells Middle School open, so then what other alternative or alternatives are there? Where does the district cut the $1 million?

The budget Committee and Governing Board members need, or rather require, your input and ideas.

Budget cuts this significant are going to be felt harshly, but if any of you have any idea at all to make them less painful, then MUSD20 and all its constituents want desperately to hear from you.

MUSD20 needs your help and input to make sure that after the cuts are done (and please remember that absolutely nobody in all actuality, wants to cut anything from our school district) that you are still as happy as can be with where you choose to bring your children to school.

Do not despair quite yet. There is still time left to help out.

On Wednesday there is the Governing Board Meeting and Budget Committee update to the Governing Board at 6 p.m. at the MUSD20 District Office on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
