After a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday attended by a standing room-only crowd, the new Maricopa City Council got down to business with an agenda including taking action on building a new fire station, approving new laptop computers for police cars and granting a liquor license for the seventh annual Great American Barbecue, the city’s Fourth of July celebration at Pacana Park.

The ceremony was opened with an invocation by Pastor Jim Johnson of the First Baptist Church and followed by a police honor guard.

Christian Price took his oath of office as the city’s new mayor with one hand on a Bible held by his wife Cindy.

Maricopa Magistrate Judge Scott Sulley administered the oath of office to Price and the council’s new members Bridger Kimball, Leon Potter and incumbent Marvin Brown.

Outgoing mayor Anthony Smith presented Price a new gavel to use as mayor.
