Pro override: Approval makes business sense

Many of us came to the city of Maricopa in recent years for the “promise” it held for quality of life. Much has been realized but not without hardships and disappointments. Yet the “hope” of tomorrow remains as our economy is gaining traction and signs of improvement occurring within the city.

Economic vitality is critical to sustaining any chances Maricopa has for a bright future.

I am supporting the MUSD twp-year, 5 percent override Nov. 6 because our schools are a significant part of our local economic engine. A healthy public school system is one of the most important issues potential employers seek in locating their business in Maricopa.

The district has responded to citizen concerns by reducing administrative positions, focusing on core teaching improvements and hiring an experienced superintendent in Dr. Steve Chestnut.

We lost a third of the teaching staff this school year due to no financial support for five years — and surrounding districts hired them. We must help in the $3-million state budget shortfall for the district in the past four years.

Vote for all of Maricopa. Vote yes.
