Gathering everyone together at the right place and time for a quality family photo can often be a hassle. Local photographer Jake Johnson is hoping his new service can help take some of the headache out of the process while giving families a nice keepsake.

Johnson is offering “Portraits in the Park” where he will set up an outdoor locale in Maricopa and schedule to shoot as many family portraits as possible. By having several photo shoots in one day at one location, Johnson said he can save families money by offering a less-expensive rate for portraits.

“I get a lot of people that will bring it up. They say ‘We really need a family portrait,’ ” Johnson said. “It’s just a hard thing for families; you have to take the time and effort.

“The feeling I have it that it’s the most important picture you can get done.”

But Johnson said he rarely hears back from people that initially express interest in portraits, and he hopes the “Portraits in the Park” will help families buckle down and get the photos they desire.

Johnson said he’s aiming to set up shoots at places that offer a nice backdrop, such as the waterfall in the Maricopa Meadows community. “We have some nice places to do portraits outdoors (in Maricopa),” he said.

The pricing plan for a 30-minute session for individuals or families is $100, which includes a CD with all the images and ownership rights of the photos. Johnson noted that sometimes photo shoots involving children can be problematic and if the session didn’t generate any good shots due to issues with kids, it would be free of charge.

Johnson said he’s received interest from some families about the portraits, but he hasn’t locked in a time or place for the shoot yet, as he wants to have a few more people scheduled before checking to see what works best for all parties involved.
