Maricopa police officers shot a man in Cobblestone Farms today they said had a weapon. The man was transported to Chandler Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The officers were among those responding to two 911 hang-ups at about 2:20 p.m. in the 44000 block of West Garden Lane, MPD spokesman Ricky Alvarado said.
Alvarado said two officers encountered the man walking west on a walking path toward Cobblestone Farms Parkway near the round-about. He “had some type of weapon” and the officers feared for their safety, Alvarado said.
No officers or other civilians were injured.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating.
