A new shopping center may be en route to Maricopa.

Scottsdale developer SimonCRE proposed building a retail hub near Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Porter Road, according to paperwork submitted to the city last month.

The shopping center would sit across the street from Walmart and AutoZone near the Copa Flats apartments.

The city documents detailed plans to transform the vacant dirt lot into a robust retail plaza. Developers dreamed up a 25,000-square-foot used clothing store and a 10,500-square-foot “low-cost neighborhood market.”

The paperwork is only part of the pre-application process, which means developers have only indicated an interest to build or do business in Maricopa.

City officials have not confirmed when the Planning and Zoning Commission will review the paperwork.

Founded in 2010, SimonCRE specializes in ground-up development and redevelopment.
