America loves Halloween, and Maricopa does, too, which is why the Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Department is announcing its first annual Mysterious Mansion Mayhem event.

Ghosts, goblins, witches and black cats will soon be everywhere in Maricopa. The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend about $5 billion on Halloween decorations.

Mysterious Mansion Mayhem is a contest for Maricopa residents who decorate the exterior of their homes for Halloween (all contestants must abide by HOA rules). It is similar to Holiday Homes on Parade.

Residents should register their decorated homes by Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. Registered homes will be featured on the City’s Web site beginning Oct. 15 for citizens to see and enjoy.

Judging will take place on Oct. 30 between 6 and 9 p.m. First prize is dinner for two at The Duke, second prize is a gift card to Native New Yorker and third prize is an honorable mention.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Maricopa residents to come together and appreciate all of the ‘haunted houses’ in our community,” said PRL organizer Katy Konski.

Registration forms and rules are available at City Hall or on the City’s Web site.

For further information, contact Konski via email or call the PRL Department at (520) 568-9098, ext. 280.
