Reader urges others to thank a teacher

We are coming upon National Teacher Appreciation Week on May 7. When is the last time you thanked a teacher?

Take time out to thank your teachers not only during Appreciation week, but throughout the entire year.

A lot of times their dedication goes unseen. They do a lot for our kids from comforting, teaching, rewarding and encouraging them. Their dedication doesn’t end when the school bell sounds at the end of the day. Extra hours put in at school turn into having to take work home. Those budget cuts result in out-of-pocket expenses to ensure the classroom is filled with necessities.

I would like to encourage more parents to get involved with the schools and help out more. Get to know your teachers better. Volunteering in your child’s class not only benefits the entire class, but more important, your own child. It creates a special bond and reinforces the importance of education. These teachers can use any time you are willing to offer from 30 minutes a week to once a month. Just ask: “How can I help?”
