Rep. Kwasman: Gusse should apologize

730

The mischaracterization recently alleged by Councilwoman (Julia) Gusse in the open letter posted on Feb. 20, 2013 where she likened the experience of the Nazi Holocaust victims to those whom would fall under a piece of legislation sponsored by Rep. Steve Smith is not only historically perverse but wholly offensive.

As a practicing member of the Jewish faith, I find the allusion to be personally insulting.

As a colleague and personal friend of Rep. Smith, not only is his character and intent regarding this matter beyond reproach, but the uncivil association by Councilwoman Gusse is beneath contempt and merits a sincere and public apology on her part to the community and to Rep. Smith alike.

Regardless of where anyone stands on the political spectrum, the atrocities committed during the Nazi Holocaust should never so lightly be associated with any current legislative conflicts. I trust that Councilwoman Gusse will realize how egregious her misstatement was and that she will make every effort rectify the situation.
