Santa Cruz Wash Bridge completion delayed for additional two weeks

The narrowing to one lane of travel on Honeycutt Road between Hartman and White & Parker is estimated to continue until April 15.

Final construction of the Santa Cruz Wash Bridge, originally scheduled for completion by the end of March, has been delayed due to recent rainfalls and wash waters.

Traffic control crews will continue to be present 24 hours a day in order to safely alternate westbound and eastbound traffic across the bridge, and variable message signs will be placed at nearby cross streets to warn travelers of the temporary delay.

This narrowing of travel to one lane is necessary for the final completion and opening of the Santa Cruz Wash Bridge on Honeycutt Road. Construction crews will be relocating a water line, dismantling the temporary detour road and paving the westbound lane of the new Santa Cruz Wash Bridge.

“As the bridge is completed on one lane, residents do not have to take any detours as they did last fall when flood waters created a safety risk,” said Management Assistant Danielle Casey.

The City of Maricopa hopes this is welcome news to residents, especially those in the Tortosa area, and thanks them for their patience during this final phase of construction.
