Save lives by donating blood on May 8

In Arizona there are 700 blood orders every day. The Latter Day Saints Church in Maricopa is hosting a blood drive on May 8 to help meet that demand.

The drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church building located at 37280 West Bowlin Road. Juice and cookies will be provided.

Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes. Those interested in donating blood can sign up online at www.bloodhero.com, using the sponsor code AzStake, or search under the city of Maricopa. Additionally, potential donors can contact organizer Eric Goettl directly at [email protected] or by phone at 480-375-5425, and he will make the an appointment at their preferred time.

“Donating blood is a simple way to make a very big difference in someone’s life. It just takes a half hour to 45 minutes of your day, and you can save up to 3 lives,” said Goettl.

The LDS Church will be having two blood drives each year with the next one set for November. “We are grateful for the opportunity to host this drive, and we purposely spaced our drive far enough from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church’s drive (on July 17th) so our members could donate during both drives,” Goettl said.

United Blood Services will be conducting the screenings and blood draws. They are the only providers for Maricopa’s two closest hospitals, Chandler Regional and Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.

“The blood you donate will most likely go to bless the lives of your neighbors,” Goettl said.
