The Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board will elect a new vice president during a meeting tomorrow night.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the board meeting room at the district’s administrative offices building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The resignation of former Vice President Gary Miller in September left the position vacant.

Pinal County Superintendent of Schools Jill Broussard appointed Maricopa resident Carolyn Lopez, a special needs student advocate, to the vacant board position. She was sworn in Tuesday night and will serve until the term expires Dec. 31, 2024.

The vice president will serve until January 2025.

Robert H. Downey remains the board’s president.

That leaves three remaining board members from which to nominate and vote for vice president: Tori Anderson, Patti Coutre and AnnaMarie Knorr.
