A crowd of family, friends and local business owners cheered as LaQuinta Fisher cut the ribbon in front her new salon, Silk Press Xpress.

The new business owner hosted a swanky ribbon cutting and grand opening event April 6, complete with a luxurious food spread, music and a champagne toast.

“I think it went really well and I appreciate how the community came out to support it,” Fisher said.

That includes members of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce, who co-hosted the ribbon cutting. Executive Director Kelly Anderson said they’re looking forward to watching the business grow.

“We’re just really excited to have Silk Press Xpress as a member of the chamber,” she said. “They are our biggest beauty brand, so we’re really excited to see them thrive and grow here in Maricopa.”

A number of Fisher’s family members echoed those well-wishes, including her in-law Richara Russell, who came in from Atlanta.

“I think this is sort of a first-generation business opportunity,” she said. “[Fisher and her husband] worked very, very hard for this opportunity and for this moment, so I’m just looking forward to what the future holds for them. I think they will definitely be an asset to the community.”

Fisher, who has more than 10 years of experience working in salons, said opening her own location is a dream come true.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to own a salon and I’m really excited,” she said. “I think the community in general is really happy about another beauty place in town so they don’t have to drive so far.”

While the six-chair salon awaits its final inspection before opening, Fisher said she is currently taking appointments for next week through her website or by phone.

The salon, 44360 W. Edison Road, Suite 130, will be open for clients from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
