Electrical workers were hard at work recently to prepare crucial power infrastructure in Maricopa for the upcoming monsoon season.

InMaricopa multimedia specialist Bryan Mordt visited the maintenance site to observe the work and spoke with Robert Wright, a project inspector from Arizona Public Service (APS), to gather insights into the ongoing project.

The objective of the project, according to Wright, was to replace 18 structures along the 40-mile-long 230 kV transmission line, which serves as a vital backbone for the electrical grid in the region. The transmission line stretches from Santa Rosa to Knox substations and extends to various other substations, ensuring a consistent flow of electricity to residential and commercial areas.

In collaboration with APS, subcontractor Sturgeon Electric was replacing the aging structures. In the current phase of the project, workers were setting up new steel poles and transferring electrical wires to the next structure. As Wright mentioned, this initial groundwork was projected to continue over the next couple of months.

The maintenance work holds great significance in reinforcing the electrical infrastructure, particularly during the monsoon season when the system faces additional strain, said Wright. He emphasized the upgrades were necessary to enhance the structural integrity of the power lines, guaranteeing a reliable power supply even in challenging weather conditions.
