A Maricopa Unified School District bus traveling with Desert Wind Middle School students on board was involved in a “minor” hit-and-run collision Tuesday afternoon with no injuries reported.

The driver of a car tapped the back of the bus, city emergency services spokesperson Monica Williams said. “The driver of the car, however, did fail to remain on scene until officers arrived.”

As a precautionary measure, students on board were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, an MUSD transportation official said.

The bus sustained “minimal damage,” said MUSD spokesperson Mishell Terry.

An alternate bus was dispatched to take the students home after they were evaluated, said Sergio Pulido, MUSD transportation director.

Pulido sent a message to parents about the collision, notifying them the bus would be delayed up to 45 minutes.
