The city’s finance and administrative services director has been promoted to assistant city manager.

Tom Duensing will take over the job July 1. Former Assistant City Manager Danielle Casey left to take the economic development director’s position in Scottsdale earlier this month.

Duensing will oversee the community services, development services and finance and administrative services departments.

“During the interview process, Tom’s experience, education, enthusiasm and dedication to our city set him far above the other candidates,” City Manager Brenda Fischer said in a press release. “I am confident that, in his new capacity, he is going to continue to serve the city with excellent results.”

Duensing, who started with the city in December 2011, said he is “humbled and honored to serve the citizens, city council, and staff of Maricopa.” He said that since coming to Maricopa he is “amazed at the progress we have made and look forward to the great things Maricopa will accomplish.”

As finance and administrative services director, Duensing oversaw the accounting, budget, grants, information technology and purchasing divisions. Under his tenure, the city received several awards for financial reporting and received the city’s first bond ratings.
