Tortosa Winterfest a Grinch spectacle

Stealing its theme from “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” Tortosa’s sixth annual Winterfest is Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Tortosa Main Park.

The event is free, but residents are encouraged to bring cash, unwrapped toys and nonperishable food donations. According to Lifestyle Director Ellen Buddington, the donations will be exchanged for raffle tickets for a dozen “various tacky lawn decorations.”

“We will have visits from the Grinch and Maricopa Motorcycle Santa Claus, and numerous other activities with all proceeds benefiting F.O.R. Maricopa Food Bank,” she said. “We typically draw a few hundred guests.”

A highlight of the event is sledding on Mount Crumpet, thanks to the importation of 20 tons of snow. The Grinch’s Lair will be carnival games, and there will be a petting zoo, interactive DJ and “reindeer” rides.

The "Whoville" shops include 16 vendors, such as homemade peanut brittle from Kathie's Kandies, cosmetics from Avon and hot dogs from R&L's Copa Dogs.
