Maricopa County Hospital healthcare providers said they were “cautiously optimistic” late Thursday regarding the slow-going recovery of a woman who on Sunday was struck by a train (See “Train accident victim air lifted from Maricopa“).

“She is improving,” said Brett Heising, a spokesman for the hospital where Clorinda Gwen Justin, 34, is being treated for multiple fractures and head injuries. “Her condition is no longer critical. She has been upgraded to stable.”

Justin was walking close to the railroad tracks about 600 feet west of John Wayne Parkway when she either tripped over them or was caught standing too close when a train passed through Maricopa at about 3:45 p.m., local police reported earlier this week.
