Thursday Battalion Chief Jim Wise of the Maricopa Fire Department and Lieutenants Larry Eckhardt and Willie Payne of the Maricopa Police Department graduated from an intensive three-week course entitled Leadership in Public Safety Organizations.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) sponsored the course. Its purpose, according to AZPOST, is the development of personal and effective leadership skills and the understanding of modern behavioral science and leadership theories that will help enhance motivation, performance and development to achieve organizational goals.
The course covered topics such as Leadership Styles, Communication and Organizational Skills and Creating Ethical Environments, just to name a few.
