Unlicensed street vendors are a nuisance

332

During recent weekends, members of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce have alerted our board members to unlicensed vendors selling products within the Maricopa city limits.

Members of our board have reviewed Chapter 8, business regulations of the city of Maricopa code. Specifically, we are asking the City Manager Kevin Evans and Acting Public Safety Director Patrick Melvin to address our request for consistent and aggressive enforcement of Article 8-2 of the city code as it relates to unlicensed peddlers, canvassers, solicitors and transient merchants.

We believe the presence of these unlicensed individuals undermines our legitimate tax-paying business community. In addition, we feel the presence of these unlicensed individuals is a public safety and issue and general nuisance to the community. We would request that the city of Maricopa Police Department issue citations to these vendors and work with our business community to support legitimate licensed trade of goods and services in Maricopa.

Any questions regarding the matter should be directed to Terri Kingery, executive director of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce.

We thank you both for your prompt attention to this matter and your support of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce and its membership.
