The Friends of the Maricopa Community Library said today they were pleased with the results of a weekend fund raiser featuring used books for sale.

“We were very happy with the turnout,” Friends Chairwoman Marisa McDonald said. “There was a line of customers waiting outside before we could open the doors.”

The group reported raising more than $730 in used book sales, translating to roughly 140 full bags of books sold. They also raised more than $200 in sales from patrons who bought two books the group is promoting: “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona,” a collection of recipes from local Maricopa residents and “Reflections of a Desert Town, Vol. 2,” Maricopa’s own history book.

The book sales, which are usually held in March and October, feature books from many genres such as children’s, fiction, non-Fiction, biographies, westerns, cook books, and romance.

“By far, the most popular category is children’s,” McDonald said. “We sold out of Children’s books completely.”

Those interested in donating used books in good condition for future book sales may drop them off at the library during regular business hours. For those who missed the event, mini version will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 on the porch of the Maricopa Community Library as part of National Library week.
