City will honor returning service members

It’s a special way to welcome home those Maricopans who risk their lives to protect our freedom.

The city will now honor members of the armed forces returning from overseas deployment with a certificate of appreciation.

Operation Welcome Home is a program to honor members of the military returning home to Maricopa from overseas deployment by acknowledging their service to the country during a presentation by the city council on a quarterly basis.

“This is a way to give them a big welcome home and thank you,” Intergovermental Manager Paul Jepson said at last week’s city council meeting.

Operation Welcome Home was suggested by Councilmember Julia Gusse, who believes our community needs to seek out returning veterans to both honor and support them as they return to Maricopa.
