The Winter Reading Program at the Maricopa Public Library, which began Jan. 11 and ended March 13, had 302 participants—who spent 10,099 hours reading.

According to library assistant Heather Kennedy, “The goal of the program was for each participant to read at least 30 hours. If they read at least 30 hours, they were entered in the grand prize drawing.”

Of the 302 participants, 170 were children (ages 5-11).  Children read 4,004 hours, and 46 of them met the program goal of reading at least 30 hours.

Young adults, a total of 59 participants, read 2,550 hours.  Of these individuals, ages 12-17, 28 read at least 30 hours.

Adults in the 18 and over category read 3,545 hours, and 31 of the 73 participants met the program goal of at least 30 hours.

The Helios Education Foundation made the Winter Reading Program possible.
