As of late Tuesday there had been no change in the condition of the 34-year-old woman from the Gila River Indian Community who suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday when she was struck by a train.

Brett Heising, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Hospital, said Clorinda Gwen Justin was “critical, but stable.”

Justin suffered multiple fractures and head injuries at about 3:45 p.m. when a train was unable to stop on the tracks about 600 feet west of North John Wayne Parkway (See “Train accident victim air lifted from Maricopa“).

Heising said the County Hospital has the No. 1 level one trauma center in the Valley and is accustomed to caring for patients who, like Justin, have sustained out-of-the-ordinary injuries.

“God forbid something happens to you, this is where you want to be,” he said.
