13 Maricopa eating establishments pass health inspections, 2 get perfect scores

In October the Pinal County Health Department inspected 13 Maricopa establishments and handed out 13 passing grades.

The inspections are completely random and are aimed at ensuring that all the proper safety steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety.

To ensure consumer safety the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be fixed immediately and affect a location’s score; non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are determined based on the number of violations, with an E being the highest possible score an establishment can receive.

Other scores are an S, U and an N.

If an establishment receives a U or an N, they cannot operate until violations are addressed and risk being shut down permanently by the state.

Of the 13 establishments, six received an E with no complaints.

The two perfect scores belonged to Arena Sports Grill and Tutor Time.

Nine of the establishments received an E but had a minimum of one non-critical complaint.

Those restaurants were Say Sushi, New Headquarters Café, Rosati’s Pizza, Mi Casita, Panda Express, AFC Sushi, Rob’s Convenience, Royal Dunes Golf Club and Brooklyn Boys Restaurant and Pizza.

These establishments had minor violations ranging from employees not washing their hands to no lids being kept on food containers.

The other two restaurants both received an S.

Great Wall Chinese Cuisine had critical violations for not correctly marking expiration dates on potentially hazardous food in addition to employees not using proper cleaning procedures.

Barro’s Pizza also received an S for violations such as storing chicken at room temperature, not having hot water available at a hand sink and dirty facilities.
