Butterfield Elementary School holds first Book Fair

Butterfield Elementary School’s new library is holding a Scholastic Book Fair this week through Friday, Sept. 19.

Students are given the opportunity during class time to go in and peruse the books for purchase. Tuesday and Wednesday evening the library has extended hours for parents and the community to buy books from 3 to 7 p.m.

Librarian Nancy Watkins explained that the Book Fair “gives a percentage of money back to the school based on the sale of books. I can go shopping to pull books after the fair is over and get the remainder to order more books from the company.”

She says that at the top of her list are class sets for the teachers to use in the classroom. Watkins also has a list of books and videos that she would like to see ordered for the library.

The students are so excited for the book fair that they do not want to leave when the teachers tell them it is time to go. The theme for this book fair is Safari, and the cases are decked out in animal print labeling.

Watkins says they are planning another book fair for the spring to acquire more books for the library. In conjunction with the weeklong book fair event, Butterfield is having a Baskin Robbins Night on Wednesday with 20 percent of the receipts going to the school.
