School district’s governing board meets tonight

56

Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board is set to vote on a long list of items tonight, including student travel requests, early graduations and a network request proposal.

Among the travel requests to be considered: students involved in the cosmetology program to attend the Beauty National Hair Show and Conference, students in FFA to attend the Peoria High School leadership camp and the Maricopa High School Choir to attend the 2008 Northern Arizona University Vocal and Madrigal Festival.

The early graduation of three Maricopa High students is also on the agenda. The board must approve any student who requests early graduation to ensure they have met all requirements.

Board members will also vote on a revised elementary attendance policy. The revised version lists parent and student responsibilities, as well as the consequences for excessive tardiness and absences. The newly appointed truancy officer, Monica Hall, worked with the elementary school principals to develop the attendance policy.

As with all board meetings, a call to the public will allow parents or citizens to address the board.
