Freezing temperatures this week pushed an overnight repaving project back three weeks, according to a city official.
Construction crews with Tolleson-based Cactus Asphalt were slated to start crack-and-seal and mill-and-fill work on both directions of West Smith Enke Road tonight, but temperatures are expected to dip as low as 28 degrees.
“The big contingency is the overnight temperatures,” said city spokesperson Monica Williams. “If it is too cold, like it is this week, the materials will not set the way they need to.”
The project was rescheduled to begin Jan. 29 and will be completed Feb. 26. Crews will work between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
