Last fall, A+ Charter Schools opened as a new school serving the Maricopa community during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since opening, their enrollment has grown while some schools in the community and Arizona have seen their enrollment decline.

To provide families and students a preview of how project-based learning (PBL) differs from other school models, A+ Charter is hosting a 7th Grade Preview night on Thursday, April 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. The evening will include a variety of activities that are reflective of the types of hands-on learning included in the PBL model. Activities include dice games related to probability and genetics, an escape room using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, relays, dances, and music activities. Families and future students will also have an opportunity to see some 3D printing projects, robotics and games students have created through the technology courses. Hotdogs and sno cones will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Despite the challenges that COVID-19 brought to schools, we are proud of our students and teachers this year. It is exciting to reflect back over the year and think of the successes of our students and team in our first year,” said Rachele Reese, principal. “We can’t wait for next year as we continue with our mission to empower students and bring real world learning opportunities to our students.”

Currently, A+ Charter Schools has a waitlist for the majority of grades it will serve next year. But there are spaces still available for 7th grade.

“It is important to us to meet the students and families who attend our school,” Reese said. “We believe in the partnership between school and home. Middle school is an important time in an adolescent’s life, where many transitions are beginning as they move into becoming young adults. Come see how A+ empowers students through hands-on learning and social-emotional learning and meet our team!”

Open houses and tours will continue through the summer. Visit the school’s Facebook or Instagram page. If you are interested in scheduling a tour, contact the school office at 520-265-5589. Families can also enroll through the online enrollment portal at enroll.aplusaz.org for the 2021-2022 school year or visit www.aplusaz.org to learn more about the school.
